Startup Boot Camp

October 23rd, 24th & 25th, 2009

With the generous support of our event sponsors, The Ottawa Network is pleased hold a Startup Boot Camp event.

This exciting event is designed is to bring together entrepreneurial minded people from Ottawa’s technology sector to lay the groundwork for new venture creation. The most promising company proposal judged at the end of the weekend will receive a $5,000 cash reward for incorporating within 45 days.

Many successful ventures start with great teams, and this venue will broaden your exposure to like-minded and capable potential partners with complimentary skills. You will be in “startup mode” for the entire weekend –it may not be for everyone– and this will be a great test of how well it suits you. Naturally, the mix of attendees, innovative ideas brought forward, event guidance skills and everyone’s effort and interest will determine the outcomes.

Trevor Wilkins has been influencing people to buy from him and his teams for over 25 years. He has ground floor sales & marketing experience of start-ups ranging from 2 guys in a garage to well-funded NASDAQ companies; from the City of London to the America’s Cup; in software and hardware technology; in the Americas, Europe and the Far East.

At this event he will not just bring useful stories, but one short but practical demonstration of just how easily we can turn the effort & stress of selling something into the enjoyment of assisting the other person to buy what they REALLY need.

You have a product or service that you want someone to pay for. You carry a vision that you want someone to invest in. You’re looking for a distribution or manufacturing partner. In all of these cases, you’ll take away immediately useable new ideas and techniques from the session.

Trevor is the Principal of Holis Associates based in Ottawa. Using their networks of coaches, Holis deliver workshops and consultancy in Business Communications & Influence in Canada, the USA and Europe. Tonight’s coach will be Peter Fillmore who has a similar background to Trevor, but much more from the marketing standpoint. Peter runs OCRI’s Entrepreneur’s Edge programme in which Trevor is an instructor.

The Ottawa Network Kicks Off New Year

with a Focused Approach

The Ottawa Network 2009-2010 season got off to a great start on Wednesday. Thanks to Gowlings for hosting the event, which attracted over 115 people to help us kick off the year. One of the highlights of the event was Rick O’Connor’s presentation of the strategic plan for the year (click here to view presentation), which received kudos from at least one reviewer, Francis Moran of Inmedia. In his blog, Francis wrote:

“A weekend-long, competitive startup boot camp in October that will see the winning team take away $5,000 in seed funding was the most interesting piece of a coherent new programming line up announced last night by The Ottawa Network, the city’s grassroots networking club for the technology sector.” Read the whole blog.
