Where are we today?  Find out about the state of Ottawa high tech – the breadth of market segments addressed by local companies, the role of our educational institutions, what is creating change, and how it’s impacted by the current economic downturn.

Jim Donnelly – Editor, Ottawa Business Journal
Jim Donnelly has been editor of the Ottawa Business Journal and Ottawa Technology magazine since early 2008, and has been with Transcontinental Media since 2005. He was previously the features editor of Ottawa At Home magazine, entertainment editor at the Ottawa City Journal, and sports editor of the Orleans Star.

Previous to his time at Transcontinental, Jim plied his trade at Ottawa Magazine, the Toronto Sun and, yes, Frank Magazine - all while finding the time to live abroad in the U.K. for one year in 2001-02, and India for six months in early 2005 - both during and following his time at graduate journalism school at Carleton University. He graduated in 2004.

Originally hailing from Parry Sound, Ontario and having attended both Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo and Carleton, Jim now lives in Ottawa. He is passionate about the local business community and tech scene, travel, great music and ice hockey, in no particular order.

3 x 10 panel on “Bootstrapping for Success”

The Ottawa Network (TON)’s 3 x 10 panel is a monthly event focussed on entrepreneurial aspects of the technology community. Each panel features 3 speakers presenting for 10 minutes each.
This month’s speakers:

Dan Wilton is the President and co-founder of Tologix, a 2008 startup with a disruptive Legal Knowledge Management and Publishing solution. Founded by a web technology executive & team of lawyers, Tologix has a product in-market, is tightly focused, and serving marquee clients. As an active entrepreneur with a passion for disruptive technologies, Dan has consulted & invested in local startups, successfully launching them on shoestrings. Prior to Tologix, he has worked as VP Web Services in Ottawa’s largest terrestrial ISP, VP Marketing in the largest regional wireless ISP, and Associate Director with Canada’s largest telco where he drove growth of an emerging SMB-focused product line.

Aurélien Leftick leads PicSphere’s commercialization efforts and is committed to making MetaFlow the industry standard workflow solution for professional photographers. Prior to joining PicSphere, he was a business analyst at Sumalytics, a new Healthcare Performance Management solution pioneered at the MIT Sloan School of Management and the University of Ottawa. He was responsible for evaluating and articulating the commercialization opportunities of this new case-costing methodology. In 2006, Aurélien was awarded Student Entrepreneur of the Year Award by the Ottawa Center of Research and Innovation (OCRI).

Pascal St-Jean co-founded PicSphere Technologies and played a key role in raising PicSphere’s first seed investment round. He is the lead technologist, architecting and implementing an innovative technology called MetaImage. He is also responsible for building and leading the development team which completed PicSphere’s first product, MetaFlow, now in commercial Beta. Pascal graduated in 2004 with a Bachelor in Computer Engineering from the University of Ottawa.
