TiE Event Announcement - May 22, 2008

Why Mexicans Don’t Drink Molson

Author Ms. Andrea Mandel-Campbell

Not that far back, Molson was bigger than Heineken; Royal bank was bigger than Chase Manhattan, Credit Suisse and JP Morgan; Stelco and Dofasco were giants in steel production. Today, Heineken is a global name, Royal bank no longer enjoys the status it once had and Stelco and Dofasco are owned by foriegn companies. It seems one by one Canadian companies have lost opportunities in confronting international markets.

What went wrong?
How do we turn the tide?
How do we build a “headquartered” economy?

Ms. Andrea Mandel-Campbell, the author of the best seller book “Why Mexicans Don’t Drink Molson” will be a keynote speaker at the TiE Ottawa May event. Andrea will dig deep into the topic of why Canada has failed to produce global companies and she will discuss what we have to do change the trend. This is once in a lifetime chance to learn more about a topic that is dear to Canadian entrepreneurs. Don’t miss this great opportunity to meet Andrea Mandel-Campbell in person and hear her views on the topic.

Making Connections

How to Sell in 2008:

Why Everything has changed since 2000!

Come out to The Ottawa Network Making Connections event this Wednesday May 14th at 5:00 for some great informal networking and to hear:

Ray Fisher: Director Business Development - Europe, Middle East & USA East at Semiconductor Insights

share how dramatically the sales process has changed and about the current best practices.

I re-connected with Ray when I was setting up the “Sales Round Table” event a few months ago. He couldn’t make it, but our conversation was so compelling I wanted everyone to benefit from his learning and willingness to share.

Ray has over 25 years of sales & marketing experience. I’d heard him referred to as the “closer”, but Ray says he hasn’t done a “close” in 3 years! He hasn’t made a cold call in 3 years! He is selling more today than ever before.

This session is not about Ray though; it’s about you. This will be an interactive session. Here’s a chance to ask about your current sales problems, why the great product you’ve got doesn’t seem to be selling, why your experienced sales team with a great track record is struggling, the things that are keeping you awake at night?

A lot has changed in the past half decade, here’s your opportunity to hear what’s been working for Ray and his team. He’s prepared to share his best practices, speak to your problems, and hopefully be able to help you sleep at night.

So whether or not you’re “formally” in sales (because in reality everyone is in “sales” one way or another), this is a session that you just can’t afford to miss! Come early to participate in the informal networking prior to Ray’s session. We look forward to seeing you there, and bring a friend to make the business connections to drive your success.

Get your story straight:

How to engage the media.

Leo Valiquette, inmedia Public Relations

Leo is a consultant with inmedia and former editor of the Ottawa Business Journal. He will discuss the best practices employed by inmedia to get clients the media coverage they need in specific industry and trade publications and the criteria that should be employed to determine which media are the right media. It all begins with one simple question, “Do you know the story you are trying to tell?”

Drawing from his years as a business journalist, Leo will also discuss his experiences on the receiving end from public relations people who fail to adequately research and prepare their pitch, as well as with savvy PR practitioners who know how to hit a home run.

Come and participate in this networking and education Making Connections event. We look forward to seeing you there, and bring a friend to make the business connections to drive your success.
