Uncloaking Surve


Dave Vicary, CEO of Surve Inc.

Dave is taking this opportunity to “uncloak” Surve’s exciting new Surveillance and Security software product. This event marks the first public release of the Surve website and product, targeted for initial deployment in the local market. This new offering is initially targeted at an individual consumer market, with a growth path to corporate users.

Dave is a proven serial entrepreneur, founding Nakina Systems in 2002 and leading them to significant sales before leaving in August 2006. Dave worked at Nortel Networks from 1992 through 2002 where he led a series of successful R&D teams as a manager and Director. Outside of technology, Dave has a passion for racehorses and racing.

provides a perspective on the accelerating adoption of Open Source Software methodologies in other commercial endeavours. The presentation will provide an historical context for, and examine the underlying principles of, the co-sourcing movement. In particular, the session will provide some practical insights into the opportunities and challenges of the co-sourcing model.

Thomas’ practice at Gowlings focuses on providing legal advice in the areas of technology law and technology-related commercial matters. Before re-joining Gowlings, Thomas was Senior Counsel with Nortel and provided general legal support to numerous and diverse product development organizations. Thomas worked extensively on Open Source Software matters during his tenure at Nortel and was the Global Law Department leader on the Nortel Open Source Advisory Team.

Many presentations provide ideas and tips on what investors are looking to see in your business plans in terms of market, competitor and such. This presentation takes the unique approach of helpful tips and suggestions on what to do from the entrepreneurs perspective. Where to start, what homework you should do before shopping your idea, and how to protect yourself and your idea. The tips and suggestions come from Ian’s experiences in selling and marketing ideas when starting from scratch.

Ian is a certified management consultant working with early stage businesses in the Ottawa area. He is the principle at Klondike Consulting and is working to establish Ottawa’s first co-working space known as TheCodeFactory. In the past year he has chatted with roughly 300 business people in Ottawa and presented his business concept at least 40 times.
